Successful Completion of 3rd Generation Drakoo Wave Energy Converter Sea Trial in Shengsi
08/07/2024
Hann-Ocean Energy announced on July 8, 2024, the successful completion of its wave energy conversion project on Shengsi Island, Zhejiang Province, following an extensive two-and-a-half-year sea trial. Launched in January 2022, the project primarily aimed to test the performance and stability of the Drakoo 15kW wave energy convertor and evaluate various coating schemes to inform the selection of more durable technologies for future applications.
Throughout the sea trial, the wave energy convertor not only demonstrated its reliability under extreme weather conditions but also exhibited higher energy conversion efficiency in the open sea compared to previous pool tests. Hann-Ocean Energy significantly enhanced the accuracy of wave energy development through proprietary software and implemented comprehensive upgrades to the core design of the wave energy convertor.
Building on this success, Hann-Ocean Energy has formulated plans for commercial application. These plans include product design iterations, further in-depth sea trials, and exploration of new application scenarios. The company also intends to collaborate with offshore wind power projects to achieve energy complementarity, maximizing the potential of renewable resources.
Henry Han, General Manager of Hann-Ocean Energy, emphasized the company's determination to promote wave energy technology globally, using Shengsi as a starting point. He expressed gratitude for the Shengsi government's support in facilitating the sea trials and organizing related forums. This successful sea trial has bolstered the company's confidence in its ability to advance clean energy technology on a global scale.
The completion of this project marks a significant milestone in the development of wave energy as a viable renewable power source, potentially contributing to the diversification of clean energy options in coastal regions worldwide.
