Hann-Ocean’s Drakoo poised to receive the world’s first Wave Energy Converter Test Endorsement by DNV GL

03/07/2018

Hann-Ocean Energy Pte. Ltd. is scheduled to perform a feasibility study for the application of wave energy to power offshore O&G platforms in the Arabian Sea.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) codes are to be employed in analysing the results of the study, which includes a global environmental load analysis and a power-production assessment. To calibrate these codes, Hann-Ocean is set to perform a full-scale prototype test of Drakoo Wave Energy Converter (Model No. Drakoo-B0015) for measuring parameters such as power output and reaction forces.

DNV GL - Maritime, a world leader in providing consistent, integrated advisory services in technical and marine assurance, risk management and offshore classification to the global oil and gas and energy industries, has been invited by Hann-Ocean to review and witness the prototype test of Drakoo WEC.

In addition to serving as the key witness for the prototype test, DNV GL signed a contract with Hann-Ocean Energy on July 2nd, 2018 to provide comprehensive advisory services including review of reports pertaining to applied methodology, load test procedures and results and performance of the Drakoo WEC.

The signing of this contract marks a significant milestone in Hann-Ocean’s wave technology development trajectory, with Drakoo being the first Wave Energy Converter to be endorsed by DNV GL, offering it the potential for unparalleled growth in the WEC market.

Henry Han Lei, Managing Director of Hann-Ocean Energy Pte Ltd expressed his approval with the following statement – “We are excited and appreciate the support extended by DNV GL and China Ship Scientific Research Center (CSSRC) in helping usher Hann-Ocean group into the oil and gas market.”

Looking ahead, the team at Hann-Ocean is keen on tackling the challenges involved in the commercialisation journey of Drakoo WEC.
